History

The initial planning for the establishment of the Veterinary Council of Sri Lanka (VCSL) began in 1952. The Council was formally established under the Veterinary Surgeons and Practitioners Act No. 46 of 1956.

Dr. Peter Seneviratne (BVSc, MRCVS) served as the first Registrar of the Council. He played a pivotal role in preparing and implementing the Veterinary Surgeons and Practitioners Act and later served as President of the VCSL.
